This is what we are doing and a brief explanation of why we are doing it:
"We are planning to spend 10 days in Colombia as part of the MCC Peace and Poverty learning tour. We will visit local Mennonite congregations and MCC workers. The purpose is to learn about the issues facing our brothers and sisters in Colombia. We will learn about the trade and economic systems that perpetuate poverty for many and contribute to armed conflict. We will learn what Anabaptist churches in Colombia are doing to address these issues, and how we in Canada can participate.
We wish to better understand the experience and culture of people in our global family of faith. Although there are many economic differences between people in Colombia and people in Canada, we anticipate finding common ground and similarities that can bring us closer together and help us to build God's kingdom together. Where we have different experiences it is an opportunity to learn from each other. We expect to learn a lot personally, and to be able to share our experiences with our home community so that our relationships can be extended to the broader church."
We will be gone from March 3-13, and out of regular communication during that time. Watch for a series of postings on our trip and our reflections about it when we return. Due to March 7 being during our trip, don't count on any March Crossword!
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we travel.
